A court in Sokoto State has ordered the arrest of a teenager who recorded a video of a girl after having sex with her and posted it on social media.
It so happened that she was about to get married, and her fiancé aborted the wedding plan after the video of her nakedness got leaked.
Aminu Hayatu Tafida was arraigned in a magistrate’s court on Monday on charges of conspiracy, rape, profanity and defamation.
According to sources, the teenager was charged along with three of his friends accused of helping him spread the video to the girl’s fiancé and social media.
Their names are Umar Abubakar, Mas’ud Abubakar Gidado and Aliyu Shehu Kangiwa; and their fifth, Hafiz Jaafar, who is still on the run.
Prosecuting officer ASP Samuel Sule said the offences violated seven sections of the Sokoto state penal code.
However, all four denied the allegations in court.
Barrister AY Abubakar, lawyer to the first defendant asked the court to dismiss the allegations against his client on the grounds that the information contained in the initial police report did not specify what the defendant was accused of.
Barrister Yahaya Gwaza, counsel for the other three defendants, said there was no evidence linking the defendants to the charges.
After hearing submissions from both parties, Chief Magistrate Shu’aibu Ahmad adjourned the case to October 19 to allow the police to prepare the charges against them and ordered the detention of the suspects.
